How to stop overthinking? 7 easy steps.
This question, 'How to stop overthinking' is one of the most important and frequently asked questions in today's world. In this article, you will know the causes of overthinking and how to cure or how to stop overthinking only in 7 steps that are easy to apply to everyone. I will be telling you everything in the simplest language and not in complicated scientific language.
Here are 7 ways to stop overthinking very easily :
1. Be aware of your thoughts.
We all have around 70,000 thoughts in our minds in a single day. No one can stop these thoughts. The first step to curing overthinking is to be aware of what is going on in your head.
Just think about it. If you don't know where the problem is, how can you find a solution? You need to admit if you are thinking too much or thinking negatively. Admitting that you are overthinking will at least shut one confusion that is going on in your mind. That is, "Am I overthinking? I don't know I'm so confused." Admit that you are thinking too much and you need a break.
Self-improvement begins with self-acceptance. Do not ignore any problem going on in your head. Accepting it will start the journey of real change.
2. Practicing Meditation
Meditation is one of the best practices to solve the puzzle of thoughts going on in your mind. You know the problem, you need the solution which is meditation.
Bring meditation into your daily routine. Practice for at least 20 minutes. Sit in a comfortable position and start to focus on your breathing and close your eyes. It's that simple but very effective. I'm not telling you to meditate for very long but just 15 to 20 minutes and you will see the effects on your mind.
Meditation will rearrange your thoughts and get the negative thoughts out of your mind by relaxing your brain cells and your body. Don't be lazy and go and meditate. It does not require too much effort, you just need to sit and relax. So, what's the problem?
Another thing you can do is to meditate at the time when you overthink anything.
3. Live in the present
Most of the "Overthinkers" have a problem they deal with which is living in the past or the future. They may think again and again about a certain thing they said to someone which they think now that they should have not said that. They may be thinking too much about what's gonna happen in the future and get caught in the loop of anxiety.
What you need to do is to focus on the present and avoid all the negative thoughts coming from outside.
You need to focus on one thing at a time and not mix up the thoughts inside your brain. Go for a walk, focus on your breathing, stop observing your surroundings and enjoy yourself. This will relax your mind and body and let you think clearly on a particular topic.
4. Appreciate yourself and your small successes
Take a moment and write down in your notebook or a notepad application about all the things that have gone your way in recent times. Write down all your successes, even small ones, and be grateful for them.
You don't need any big accomplishments to write but anything you feel like you are grateful.
This will boost you up and distract you away from the flood of thoughts going on in your head.
5. Talk to someone who understands
You can try and talk to someone about what's going on in your mind. Maybe a best friend or anyone you know who can understand your emotions or feelings.
This will help you release all the negativity in your mind and empty it. It will be helpful because maybe they give you some good advice or maybe a solution which you can't figure out.
When you share a problem with someone, you solve half of it. It is because sometimes you can't solve a problem just because you were focusing on the problem.
6. Take charge of your thoughts
Your conscious mind is the guard of the door to your inner self. Whatever you feed your conscious mind, will go into your subconscious mind and the law of attraction will follow.
You need to take charge of your thoughts. If you are stuck on a problem, then just don't consume more information on how to solve it. It will only cause more overthinking.
It's better to let things go. If you are thinking about the past, just remember that you cannot change the past no matter what.
If you are afraid about what's going to happen in the future, just remember to do your best and take the consequences.
7. Read some books that may help
Reading a good book will definitely help you to get your mind to something else and distract you from your unwanted thoughts.
Read about whatever subject you love and you will gradually start to feel better.
One more thing to remember again is to not read books that focus on the solution to the problem you are facing. That will fill your brain with those thoughts again and it will backfire. The aim is to read good books that will make you feel relaxed.
These were the steps on how to cure overthinking. You may struggle with this problem but applying the steps given above can help you cure your overthinking and let your mind feel relaxed.
